Radish Boya

Our first 'palette' of all-organic veges arrived yesterday arvo. The quality is amazing and the home delivery is fantastic! We may just be on to something...

And all this for a pretty good price too! :)

Summer Veges - Week 5

"Look! Look!" Ryder yells every morning he sees how much the plants have grown overnight. Sadly there ain't much kissing happening anymore, but I think he's worked his charm already. Did anyone else realise I missed a week? Let's just say it's been jam-packed and you may find a new fence behind our veges..yay!!!! :) We're in the rainy season now and that may well be one of the reasons for the astounding growth happening every single day :)

There was actually a massive branch off to the left too. One morning I went out after some torrential rain and it was 2/3 snapped off. The weight was just too much for it, it seems. I took it off and the scar on the branch is all that remains :(
Tomatoes, people!! Tomatoes already!! :)

And look at these gorgeous baby salad leaves!! We've been feasting on these as quickly as the bugs have - delish!! :)

Summer Veges - Week 3

An update on the planters... We have some growth and general healthiness on both sides of the vege spectrum. Plus a little more basil under the tomatoes. The caterpillars found it before me this time ;)

Summer Veges - Week 2

Week 2 saw the tomato plant grow a little and if you've got keen eyes you might spot the beginnings of some basil underneath. I had to laugh...I planted the basil on the other side of the planter but I must have been a bit enthusiastic with my watering ;)
Plus, I branched out and grabbed the only remaining seedlings (of the beginner-variety) from the Home Centre. These are japanese Shishitou (mini green peppers). They're often eaten whole on skewers with chicken and are quite mild...yum! Next to the peppers I planted some Baby Leaf Salad seeds. Let's hope they aren't washed away like the Basil ;)

The Shishitou came to us with a few peppers already growing. The plant itself was a little sad looking, but the best of the bunch.

Summer Veges - Week 1

So I'm back...at least for the moment it seems ;) I've been busy, busy lately and have had lots of new projects popping up. Nice projects too!

I've become hooked on this gardening blog and she's got me inspired. So, I decided to start out with something nice and easy - cherry tomatoes and basil. Through my reading so far I've found out they make good companion plants, so stuck them in the planter together. Watch them grow!

I've been persuading Ryder to kiss them good morning to give them a head start ;)

Boys Day 2009

You can scroll back to this time last year for all the symbolism and culture of Boys Day (or Childrens Day as it's sometimes known) here in Japan, but this year I'm happy to present some pictures!! Yay!! :) Who doesn't love piccies?

The carp windsocks were given to us (Ryder) by his grandparents. I was astounded at the price tags on the catalogues and begged that they get us one of the simpler sets...which they did. I believe these ones only had 4 digits... :0

Some from the early Boys Day celebrations at a good friend's house. Here you'll see Ryder, Yuki and Genki in their happi coats, about to ride the portable shrine (mikoshi) around the neighbourhood, pulled by local bigger kids. They had a ball!! We went to the Seki festival after that (where I lived when I first came to Japan) and had a look round, vistited some snack stalls and watched some friends in their cool Japanese dance troops. Enjoy!

Finally...spring! :)

Ahhh, I've been wanting to blog for a while now but haven't had the chance. I have 41 minutes before my bedtime, so this is it! :) We've been getting out and enjoying the warm spring weather by having lots of simple lunches at the park.

Sakura

We enjoyed a gorgeous day out in the sun today. The cherry blossoms are almost in full bloom in Inuyama, so we decided to have yummy Mex for lunch (the boy ate almost a whole adult size meal!) and then strolled around Inuyama Castle drinking in the sakura goodness. Can anyone guess what flavour he chose?

Growing up!

Hi all,

It's been blissfully sunny all day today. Am so looking forward to Spring :) Yay! A couple of photos taken in the last week or so. He's growing up so quickly! It's amazing how fast kids pick things up at this age :) Whenever I take a pic he never fails to come and ask "Can I have look please mummy". Too cute :)

Welcome 2009!

A little late with my New Year message, you say? You may be right ;) But better late than never, huh?
We all had a wonderful time in Australia. We travelled from the Gold Coast to Canberra, the South Coast, Sydney, the North Coast, back to Sydney and then back to the Goldie. After that we spent a little bit of time near Ballina and then a day up on the Sunshine Coast too. Busy, busy...
The little man was such a good traveller that I couldn'T complain at all. He adjusted perfectly to all the different beds, people, food, weather and everything in between. Very lucky :)
Everyone was well and made us feel so welcome. Thank you!! The only dark spot to our trip were the terrible bushfires that ravaged Victoria and South Australia in February..which reminds me I still haven't made our donation.
Here are some of my favourite pics from the trip. Enjoy :)

2nd Birthday

Hi all,
Sorry for being so slow in getting these pics up. Ryder had a ball on his birthday. We went as far as Nagoya on the highway bus, then changed onto the swish Airport train to get to Central Japan International Airport.

We had a yummy lunch there (he pretty much demolished his) and then headed out to watch the planes taking off and landing. Of course he loved it!!
It was a pretty perfect birthday for the boy who loves all things transport. We even took a cab home ;)
I'll add a pic of the birthday cake too. Thanks everyone for all your help locating the magazine. It was very rich, but actually turned out better than expected. Thanks again everyone for your kind wishes and generous presents :)
Enjoy!
